Transcending the monkeymind
Admit to yourself that you want power Yes, I want power, but I want it to do good. What kind of good? Whose good? The good of all people. Do you really believe that? I try to. What does that mean? It means I've realized that I didn't always feel this way. Now I'm trying to correct it, but I'm having a hard time seeing a way out. From the perspective of harsh dichotomies, Buddha could been seen as a demon, pimping peace. 'Peace' is evil. It doesn't exist anywhere in the universe, and suggestion that it does is a means of deception. You know, I agree, but you are attached to a specific outcome, and the demonstration is that this is an outcome which you do not control. So what? Yes I'm attached to a specific outcome, and the outcome is good. I want more good in the world. You know you get out of the world what you put into it. This is a closed system, afterall. You're suggesting that I'm not trying hard enough? Never, I'm suggesting you direct your focus inward. The whole world is inward. Which doesn't matter unless you know just how to interact with it. There are segments over which you have no control. Yes, and some of those attack, unprovoked. Unprovoked? This is a closed system. The question is, provoked by what? Not by us. Then by who? God, it seems. Seems to who? Seems to be. Seems to you? But you are not in the universe, you are of the universe. But I am a part of something bigger. And I am two parts of something smaller. Don't get fresh with me. Yes, sir. Do you believe in God? Whose God? The God of All. The One Sovereign. I can't say that I don't. Is that what you wanted me to do? Not at all. We're trying to save you, not condemn you. Save me from what? From evil. From suffering? From the illusion that suffering is bad. Ah. Well, thank you. You're quite welcome. So is suffering bad? Undeserved suffering, yes. Intentional suffering, no. Are either of them good? Intentional suffering can be good. What manner of good? It can unite people. What will they fight for? They don't need to fight. What will they work for? Pennies. And the chance to cooperate with one another toward a common goal. And what if the goal is not met? Then we will die trying. What manner of goal is this? It sounds important. It's the reason you've come to school. Which school? Earth. To find peace? To become peace. How does evil come into this? How can I fight peacefully? Evil is irreconcilable viewpoints. And my job is to reconcile them? Yes. Gladly. |
